Indonesia’s Coffee Industry Strengthens Its Presence on the Global Market
Indonesian coffee once again took the international stage through KAPPI’s participation in FOODEX Japan 2026, held from March 10-13 at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan. This momentum marked a strategic step to expand global exposure while strengthening Indonesia’s position as one of the world’s leading coffee producers.
More than just an exhibition, the event created opportunities for collaboration with global coffee industry players and further enhanced appreciation for Indonesian coffee as a high-value product.
Distinctive Coffee Origins of Indonesia
Through a selective curation process, KAPPI presented nine coffee origins from various regions, including Gayo, Mandheling, Java, Bali, Flores, and several others. Visitors had the opportunity to taste and understand the unique characteristics of each origin, reflecting the richness of Indonesia’s terroir, from floral notes to a full-bodied profile.
The main highlight was Rimba Excelsa, a relatively rare coffee variety in the global market that grows naturally in the tropical forests of Sumatra and has shown strong potential in the global coffee market.
Drip Coffee: A Modern and Convenient Way to Enjoy Local Coffee
Beyond roasted & ground coffee, FOODEX Japan 2026 also served as a platform for KAPPI to introduce its assorted drip coffee innovation as a practical way to enjoy Indonesian coffee without compromising its quality and flavor, featuring two variants Bali and Java. The drip coffee format was chosen to align with Japan’s fast-paced lifestyle trends, while demonstrating that Indonesian coffee can be adapted into modern, ready-to-consume products that remain competitive in the global market.
Strengthening the Coffee Ecosystem from Upstream to Downstream
A representative of KAPPI, Roby Wibisono, emphasized that the strength of Indonesian coffee lies in its diverse origins and its integrated ecosystem from upstream to downstream. To support this, KAPPI actively provides education and assistance to farmers across Indonesia to improve productivity and increase added value, ultimately strengthening the global competitiveness of Indonesian coffee.
Coffee as a Story and National Identity
For KAPPI, participation in FOODEX Japan was part of its coffee diplomacy efforts to position Indonesian coffee not only as a commodity, but also as a representation of culture, tradition, and the dedication of local farmers. From plantations in remote regions of the archipelago to the global market, Indonesian coffee carries a story that reinforces the nation’s identity on the world stage.
Through Harmoni Imlek Nusantara 2026 in Jakarta, KAPPI presented an immersive experience of enjoying Indonesian coffee as part of its effort to introduce local coffee through an approachable and accessible concept for the public.
